Although the quantity of concerts, events, exhibits, and productions staged this year was down slightly again, the quality was definitely up. This week, in the interest of avoiding a 12 page New Year’s newspaper spread, we will look at events around the county from the Artist In Residence cooperative to the West Swanton Methodist Church annual Lawn Supper. FESTIVAL OF TREES

Corliss Blakely of St. Albans has donated a Christmas tree with 33 original paintings to the Festival of Trees. The Festival of Trees includes an Opening Gala plus a Christmas parade, Santa’s Workshop, the Sugar Plum Fairies, and hourly entertainment on Saturday and Sunday. Read more

The Artist In Residence Gallery features painters Harald Aksdal, Kirsten Doolan, and Nancy Hayden, folk artist Lorraine Pike, and metal sculptor Kasia Szabo. The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Nancy Jacobus. The third art auction to benefit the Vermont Foodbank ends tomorrow. Read more
